Abstract:
The high-resolution 170 NMR spectra of solutions containing polyoxoanions of V(V), Mo(VI), and W(VI)
consist of several lines, whose range of chemical shifts is greater than 1000 ppm [1-6]. An earlier 170 NMR
study of simpler oxo-compounds established the characteristic range of values of the chemical shifts for O
atoms of different types [6-9]. At the highest magnetic field intensities, signals are observed from the O atoms
in compounds, in particular water, in which the valence electrons form a highly symmetrical filled level. In
oxo-compounds with a covalent bond, a weak-field shift relative to water is observed, and this shift increases
with increase in the degree of covalent character of the bond [10].
