Abstract:
The title reactions gave yields of sulfoxides and sulfones up to 100%. Several 2nd-order rate consts. were detected; these decreased in the order 2-ethylthiophane > 2,5-diethylthiophane > thiophane, Et2S > 2-hexylthiophane > tetrahydrothiopyran. Petroleum sulfides were oxidized more slowly. The role of acetone was discussed.
