Abstract:
The arylation of C2H4, propylene, and styrene by benzene with Pd(OAc)2 as catalyst was examined; the reaction was 1st order in olefin, benzene, and Pd2+. Isotope effects were detected. The rate-detg. step involved conversion of a (π-olefin)(π-benzene)palladium(II) complex to a (π-olefin)(σ-phenyl)palladium(II) complex.
