Abstract:
An analysis has been made of the nonaffineness of isotherms for chemisorption on metal catalysts differing in energy characteristics of the surface. The analysis is based on a calculation of chemisorption isotherms for model catalyst specimens with an assigned distribution of surface sites with respect to heats of adsorption. A method is proposed for determining the specific surface area of the supported metal on the basis of the point of maximum coverage of the surface as distinguished on comparison graphs. It is shown that these determinations can be performed in cases of nonaffine isotherms as well, with an error that depends on the ratio of heats of adsorption on the specimen and on the standard.
