Abstract:
The oxidation of CO on a number of platinum catalysts deposited on silica gel was studied in the kinetic regime at atmospheric pressure and temperatures in the range 271-433 degree K; excess oxygen was present. At low temperatures the graph for the dependence of the steady-state reaction rate on the CO concentration has two branches. With an increase in temperature this 'separation' disappears. The experiment is described mathematically on the basis of a double-path mechanism and modeled on an isothermal reactor with ideal mixing.
