Abstract:
It is shown by means of EXAFS that the environment of nickel in (Sn plus Ni)/SiO2 catalysts is made up of nickel and tin atoms and the tin(II) ion. The Ni-Ni distance in the bimetallic catalyst is 0. 15 A longer than in massive nickel. The data that have been obtained correspond to a model that assumes stabilization of a nickel-tin cluster consisting of some 20 atoms on a tin(II) ion that is bonded to the support.
