Abstract:
The authors have undertaken an attempt to observe the ESR spectra of ordered Cu2+ ions in clusters and CuO following the chemical modification of the latter. Although such modification can be fairly strong, there is still some basis to assume that the structures formed contain information on the features of the original compounds. It is shown that although the question of the detailed mechanism for the chemical modification of CuO is not completely clear, from the data presented it is clear that such modification weakens the exchange interaction between the copper ions, which is accompanied by the appearance of ESR spectra with unusual parameters. This may be useful for detecting highly dispersed CuO on the surfaces of oxides.
