Abstract:
The introduction of small (up to 0. 2 wt. %) quantities of oxides of alkaline and alkaline-earth metals leads to an increase in the activity of a Bi-Sb-V oxide system in the oxidative ammonolysis of toluene. It is shown that this effect is caused by an increase in the content of basic centers on the catalyst surface. Under these circumstances, the oxygen bond energy is almost unchanged. On the basis of the results presented, the effect of promoting the Bi-Sb-V oxide system by small (up to 0. 2 wt. %) quantities of oxides of the alkaline and alkaline-earth metals may be explained by the increase of the numbers of basic centers on the catalyst surface, by the participation of which the catalysis is accomplished.
