Abstract:
A non-additive enhancement (2-7 times) of catalyst activity was observed for samples containing ∼70% Mn oxide. Catalysts were characterized by x-ray phase analysis, DTA, differential thermogravimetric analysis, and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The ferromagnetic NiMnO3 phase was identified in catalysts prepared by calcination of precursors precipitated (by evaporation) from Ni and Mn nitrate solutions at 773 and 873 K. The NiMnO3 phase decompositions at 1073 K. The synergism in catalyst activity observed for samples calcined at 773 and 873 K is attributed to the higher activity of 2-phase catalysts containing NiMnO3 and Mn2O3.
