Abstract:
An analysis is made of the adsorbed CO-induced (1 × 1) - (2 × 2) surface phase transition on Pt(110). The adsorbed CO was studied by XPS, LEED, and thermal desorption spectroscopy. The absence of hysteresis in CO adsorption isobars and the similar heats of adsorption on (1 × 1) and (2 × 2) structures indicate that the surface structure transition is not the cause of the observed kinetic auto-oscillations in CO oxidation on Pt(110).
