Abstract:
The problem of the reliability of pore-size distributions as calculated by the conventional processing of the results of capillary adsorption and mercury-porosimetry measurements is considered. Some features of capillary condensation in the system of interconnected voids are analyzed. On the basis of the theoretical approach developed, numerical experiments simulating nitrogen adsorption and desorption, as well as mercury intrusion into a model porous material with properties given, were performed. The isotherms and porosimetry diagrams obtained were processed by conventional methods of calculating the size distributions of independent capillaries. The size distributions calculated are compared with the distributions of voids and pore entrances according to their radii for model porous systems, and reasons to account for divergences are analyzed. More realistic interpretations of results obtained by conventional methods are considered.
