Abstract:
The interaction of hydrogen sulfide with silica-supported phosphorus-molybdenum heteropolyacid (P-Mo HPA) was studied by IR, DTA, and EPR. This treatment is accompanied by molybdenum reduction and by the substitution of two types of bridged oxygen atoms in the heteropolyanion by sulfur atoms to form paramagnetic centers containing sulfur in the molybdenum coordination sphere. In the temperature range where the heteropolyanions are stable, the bond strength of incorporated sulfur grows with increasing treatment temperature. Below 330°C, sulfurization of
P-Mo HPA/SiO2 is a reversible process. Resubstitution of partially sulfided P-Mo HPA occurs through the exchange between sulfur and oxygen atoms.
