Abstract:
In this review, we consider the results of investigation by the EXAFS method of the structure of highly dispersed metallic particles in supported metal catalysts. We have observed substantial differences in interatomic distances, geometric packing, and the chemical state of the metal atoms in these particles from the same values for the massive metals. For supported rhodium catalysts, we show that the so-called strong-carrier interaction, from a chemical viewpoint, represents disruption of the framework of chemical bonds between rhodium atoms and formation about these atoms of a ligand environment composed of oxygen anions and apparently also carrier metal atoms.
