Abstract:
A study has been made of the methanol conversion of bifunctional catalysts prepared by deposition of 12-series heteropoly compounds (HPCs) AxEMo12O40 (where A equals H+ , Na+ , Cu2+ , or Co2+ : E equals Si4+ , P5+ ) on the supports of SiO2, TiO3, and Al2O3. It has been established that a lowering of the concentration of protonic centers in the catalyst, whether by increasing the degree of replacement of H+ in heteropolyacids by metal cations, by depositing the HPC on basic supports, by replacing the P5+ central atom by Si4+ , or by increasing the degree of HPC dehydration, leads to an increase in the catalyst selectivity with respect to formaldehyde production, through a lowering of the rates of acid-type reactions.
