Abstract:
The effects of the porous structure of the silica gel support, the composition of the gaseous medium, and the state of the active component on the high-temperature deactivation of vanadium catalysts are discussed. A significant reduction in activity in the reaction medium occurs in the absence of phase transitions in the active component and the support and correlates with a reduction in the specific surface of the catalyst; it is enhanced by the use of densely packed silica gels with a low pore volume, by an increase in the molar ratio of alkaline promoters to vanadium (M/V), and especially by an increase in the fraction of sodium promoter.
