Abstract:
The authors investigate in detail the nature of the centers in aluminum oxide that are active in the coking reaction. It is known that the acid-base properties of aluminum oxide play an important role in coking. Therefore, we have examined the acid-base properties of all of the currently known crystalline forms of aluminum oxide, and have compared these properties with the corresponding specific catalytic activities in the coking reaction. It has been shown that the active centers in the reaction of aluminum oxide coking are acid-base pairs, representing combinations of a coordination-unsaturated aluminum cation (L-center) and an oxygen bridge ion.
