Abstract:
Modification of SiO2 and AlSi with alkali metal salts, with consequent formation of basic centers, afforded increase in both activity and selectivity (vs. Me2S) for MeSH in the title reaction. Similar treatment of γ-Al2O3 afforded a decrease in activity but an increase in selectivity for MeSH. The effect of basic centers is attributed to their weaker activating ability for MeSH, whose dissociative chemisorption affords Me2S.
