Abstract:
Twenty-two catalyst systems were evaluated in Me2S synthesis from 0.6:1 H2S-MeOH at 360° and 0.1 MPa. Those with predominant Broensted-acid or strongly basic centers on the catalyst surface had low activity and selectivity for Me2S. The most effective catalysts were Al2O3 containing paired strong Lewis-acid and moderately basic centers, e.g., γ- and
η-Al2O3, 1.5% Cr2O3/Al2O3, which gave Me2S with 76-80% selectivity at 80% MeOH conversion.
