Abstract:
It is shown that the Pt(110) surface is metastable under reaction conditions. A necessary condition for the appearance of autooscillations in CO oxidation on Pt(110) is the variation in Pt surface state under the influence of the reaction medium. Kinetic oscillations are maintained due to the reversible nature of these changes in Pt surface properties.
