Abstract:
We have established that upon mechanochemical activation of hydrargillite, a compound of composition Al2O3.3H2O (HG*) is formed, close in nature to precipitated Al(III) hydroxide. We found an analogy between the processes of conversion HG* and precipitated aluminum hydroxide upon aging in aqueous medium, under the selected conditions leading to crystallization of pseudoboehmite according to a "directional growth" mechanism.
