Abstract:
High-temperature treatment of V-Sb-Bi oxide catalyst with an ammonia-oxygen mixture results in the removal of strong Bronsted acid centers and weakly bound oxygen and the appearance of partially dehydrogenated forms of ammonia on the surface. At 20-degrees-C toluene is adsorbed on such a surface primarily in the form of a pi-benzyl complex. Heating in the 150-350-degrees-C range is accompanied by successive appearance of benzylimine, benzonitrile, benzamide, and benzoate structures. The presence of ammonia in the gas phase prevents the formation of benzoate structures.
