Abstract:
EPR studies showed that different types of surface anion radicals Ost− on MgO (g⊥1=2.042; g⊥2=2.033 and g⊥3=2.044) after their interaction with O2 produce [O−·O2] complexes with similar spectral parameters (g11=2.017, g2=2.010 and g3=2.002). The appearance of g12=2.015 in O2 adsorption is due to the formation of a new complex [X·O2], whereas centers X themselves are not observed in EPR spectra. These unobserved centers X and the detected anion radicals
Ost− are hole centers O− that are variously coordinated: (Ost−)4C and (Ost−)3C, respectively.
