Abstract:
The reduction of Ag+ on aluminosilicate or pumice supports during preparation of the title catalysts resulted in the formation of porous crust or a relatively compact layer of metallic Ag on the surface of support granules, as well as in the formation of Agnδ+-type clusters, strongly bound to the support. In contrast to the pumice supports, the aluminosilicate support underwent a substantial pore closure, caused by the Ag melt produced during calcining at ≤923 K. This blocked a large portion of Ag in the support matrix, reducing the activity of the catalysts.
