Abstract:
The catalyst, prepd. by reaction of [Mo(OEt)5]2 with SiO2, contains coordination-unsatd. Mo6+ which exhibits high catalytic activity in H oxidn. at >100°. A sharp decrease of the catalytic activity on an increase of surface [Mo(OEt)5]2 concn. is explained by the formation of 6-coordinated surface Mo complexes which are catalytically inactive. The low activation energy of the oxidn. and a high reaction order with respect to H concn. suggest a fused mechanism of H2 oxidn. on binuclear surface complexes of Mo.
