Abstract:
Isotope exchange of O in A MnO2 (A = Mg, Ca, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, and Cd) or spinel-like solid solns. NixMg1-xMn2O4 depends on the nature of the 3-valent cation B and is independent of the nature of the 2-valent cation A. The bond strength of the surface O depends essentially on the crystal field and on the 3rd ionization potential of the B cation. The exchange mechanism is discussed. The results are compared with those obtained for other spinels.
