Abstract:
The nature of the reaction of CO or CO2 with NiY zeolites depends on the reaction conditions. This is related with the formation of various states of Ni cations at various conditions. In the case of the absence of Ni cation hydrolysis, the CO absorption is not accompanied by CO oxidation. The carbonate and the carboxylate groups form when CO adsorbs on zeolites containing partially hydrolyzed Ni cations and the Ni2+ become reduced to Ni+. The mechanism of CO oxidation involves reactions of bridged O structures which are not incorporated into the basic skeleton of the zeolites.
