Abstract:
According to the EPR data, Ni cations are not distributed statistically in the MgO crystal lattice. The Ni concentration on the surface of solid solutions, as detected by the method of selective NO adsorption, is identical with the concentration detected by chemical analysis. The catalytic active centers of the solid solutions are formed by Ni cations taking part in exchange interaction. From this point of view, the activity of catalysts with varying Ni concentration is explained. In the case of reactions connected with transfer of free electrons in a limiting stage, a substantial role in catalytic activity is played by the existence of delocalized electrons which occur at certain concentrations of transition metal in catalyst (for the catalyst studied, >20 wt. % Ni).
