Abstract:
The IR spectra reveal that the reaction of NO with α-Cr2O3 surface involves the same active centers that for dissociative adsorption of O2. The reaction of NO causes evolution of O2, which in turn reacts with NO to give nitrite and nitrate surface compounds, which at lower temperatures (<300°) block active, coordinationally-unsaturated surface centers of
α-Cr2O3.
