Abstract:
IR spectra were detected for CO adsorbed on CuO-MgO (and on CuO or MgO) at different temps. and sample preparation conditions. All samples show carbonate and formate structure formation. MgO has significantly lower formation temperature for such structures compared to CuO and CuO-MgO. On Cu-containing catalysts (in contrast to MgO), CO adsorption results in carbonyl-type compound formation. The presence of Cu carbonyls on the surface lowers formation temperatures for formate structures on CuO-MgO compared to MgO.
