Abstract:
Various Lewis acid metal ions, M(I), M(II), and M(III), behave in a similar manner in the solvolysis of Me3CX(X = F, Cl, Br) in water. A Broensted-type equation which is given is similar to the Broensted equation for general acid-base catalysis. Among the ions studied are Ag(I), Zn(II), Cd(II), Al(III), Fe(III), and Ga(III).
