Abstract:
Changes in the dynamic structure and permeability of the branched polyethyleneimine (PEI) macromolecule occurring during the formation of complexes with Cu(II) ions have been investigated by means of spin-exchange titration and luminescent probes. It was found that when the Cu(II) concentration does not exceed 18 of the concentration of PEI amine groups the PEI-Cu(II) complex is freely permeable for small uncharged molecules. PEI becomes impermeable for such molecules in the case of high Cu concentrations; only copper ions bound in a complex and located on the surface of the metal-containing polymer coil are accessible for interaction with the latter molecules.
