Abstract:
Catalysys used for oxidation of sulfur dioxide constitute active component of carrier. Active component of vanadium catalysts is fused potassium pyrosulfovanadate; aluminosilicates, silica gel and native siliceous materials such as diatomite are used as carrier. The pore structure of vanadium catalysts has marked effect on their activities in oxidation of sulfur dioxide. Surfaces of catalysts heated at 500 C are less than surface of carrier by factor of 2 to 5; this is due to fact that, by covering carrier surface uniformly, active component blockswedge-shaped parts of pores. Heating catalyst at 700 C leads to increase in pore size, further decrease in catalyst surface, and marked change in pore structure of carrier.
