Abstract:
Influence of vapors of the oil of vacuum pumps, vacuum grease of stopcocks and ground joints, and glues used to fasten windows to the IR cuvette on the IR absorption spectra of alcohols adsorbed on aluminum and chromium oxides at various temperatures, taken under conditions of "pure" vacuum, was studied. It was shown that the observed adsorption bands arising in the adsorption of alcohols on the investigated oxides are the result of the formation of surface structures, due to an interaction of the alcohol molecules with the surface by vapors of the oil of the vacuum system.
