Abstract:
On titanium dioxide films, the chemisorption of oxygen and the effect over a temperature range from 128 to 342 C is accelerated when an electric field is applied which lowers the work function. In presence of the electric field, the activation energy for oxygen chemisorption does not vary with coverage and equals the minimum activation energy for oxygen chemisorption in absence of the field. The shift in the position of the Fermi level during application of the electric field affects the chemisorption only where there is a sufficiently high concentration of active sites.
