Abstract:
Part 1 describes the effect of the porous- structure parameters on the effective diffusion coefficient. Predicting diffusive inhibition in catalyst pores is one aspect of the general problem of predicting catalytic activity. The ratio Deff/Dt of the experimental and theoretical diffusion coefficients have been determined for 20 catalyst samples varying in their pore- volume distribution along the effective radius, as a function of the total porosity (εo). Within the εo range 0. 2 to 0. 7, a decrease in εo is accompanied by a linear decrease in the ratio Deff/Dt. εo. Since Deff decreases much faster than linearly with εo, the pore geometry evidently becomes less suitable for gas transport as the total pore volume decreases.
