Abstract:
Photocatalytic oxidn. of H2O to mol. O in soln. contg. a photocatalyst (Ru(bpy)32+) (bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine), a catalyst for H2O oxidn. (Co compds.) and an irreversible electron acceptor (either S2O82- or Co(III) ammonia complexes) was studied in microheterogeneous systems of 3 different types: micellar solns., microemulsions and suspensions of lipid vesicles. Photocatalyst adsorption on Na dodecylsulfate micelle surface led to 10-fold increase in the selectivity of H2O oxidn. compared to homogeneous soln. A probable mechanism for this phenomenon is suggested. The possibility of creation of isolated photocatalytic reaction-center for O evolution from H2O in H2O-in-oil microemulsions and internal cavities of vesicles was demonstrated. The problem of conjugation of such reaction-center inside vesicle with the electron phototransfer to the acceptor localized in an aq. phase outside vesicle is discussed.
