Abstract:
Recent interest in nanomaterials (typically on the scale of 10-7–10-9m) is stimulated by the fact that, owing to the small size of the building blocks (particles, grains, or phase) and the high surface-to-volume ratio, these materials demonstrate unique mechanical, optical, electronic and magnetic properties [1–3]. The properties of nanomaterials are mainly determined by interplay of: (1) fine building block size (<100 nm); (2) the chemical composition of constituent phases; (3) the presence of interfaces, more specifically grain boundaries, heterophase interfaces, or free surface; (4) interactions between the constituent blocks.
