Abstract:
The growth mechanism of platinum deposited onto Re(0001) has been investigated using photoemission of physisorbed xenon. The three types of observed adsorption sites have been attributed to quasi isolated platinum atoms, close packed platinum patches, and mixed Pt-Re sites i.e. the boundaries of these patches. The number of platinum islands as well as their size has been deduced from the data.
