Abstract:
The stages of propane oxidation on the surface of ZrO2 in the presence of oxygen are studied by IR spectroscopy. It is shown that low-temperature oxidation of the product of dissociative adsorption of propane, a C3H7- species, with the formation of RCOO- (R=H and CH3) occurs only in the presence of oxygen, and decomposition of the latter anion yields CO2. A scheme describing the destruction of C3H7- to the products of complete oxidation is proposed.
