Study of Copper bis-Salicylaldehydate Complex (Cu(Salald)2) and Its Adducts with Different Bases by EPR and IR Spectroscopic Methods

By using EPR and IR spectroscopy methods it was found that Cu(Salald)2 exists in slightly polar solvents in the form of two isomers, which are possibly cis--trans isomers with a close to planar structure. The adduct formation of Cu(Salald) 2 with weak bases practically does not influence its isomeric composition, while the addition of strong bases leads to a preferential stabilization of one of the isomers, probably the trans-isomer.
