A mixed soln. contg. Cr(NO3)3 and (NH4)6Mo7O24 with a Mo/Cr ratio of 2-4 was prepd., then the catalyst mass was dried and roasted. To obtain a catalyst with high mech. strength, a carrier, for instance silica gel or corundum, was satd. with the mixed soln. and the roasting took place at 450-600°, preferably at 500°, within 2-6 h. Silica gel with sp. surface ≤60 m2/g was used and the active components 10-40 %, preferably 18-25 wt. %, were deposited on the carrier. Corundum without admixts. (γ-Al2O3) was used and the amt. of active components was maintained at 10-25 wt. %, preferably 12-18 wt. %.
