Abstract: The ESR spectra of TiO2 with an admixture of copper(II) ions have been studied after mechanical activation. Stabilization of the copper ions in octahedral and square-pyramidal coordination sites of the TiO2 lattice has been discovered. The formation of a phase of rutile upon the mechanical activation of anatase has been discovered.
