The title reaction gave 2,6-dimethylcyclohexanone (I) and 2,6-dimethylcyclohexanol sequentially. The selectivity for I was higher in the vapor-phase reaction than in the liquid-phase reaction. In the vapor-phase reaction the pores of the catalyst were partially filled with liquid 2,6-dimethylphenol, and lower-boiling products were removed from the reaction zone.
