Abstract:
The method of titrating chemisorbed hydrogen by oxygen in an atmosphere of water vapor has been used to investigate the 'microdistribution' of platinum particles of various size ranges in the Pt/Al2O3 system. Two states of the platinum were established: an ultrafine form stabilized by strong interaction with the carrier, and fine Pt particles located in the mesopores and macropores. A method has been developed for quantitative estimation of the surface areas of these forms of Pt, and also the nature of the distribution of the fine metal particles in the mesopore volume in low-concentration aluminoplatinum catalysts.
