Abstract: Oxidation of propylene into propylene glycol and its acetates in acetic acid solutions of nitric acid was investigated in the presence of heterogeneous palladium, palladium-platinum, and palladium-rhodium catalysts on different supports (carbon, silica gel, titanium dioxide). It was found that the reaction basically takes place with the participation of the solid catalyst, although partially and in solution due to washing of the active components from the support. Palladium-platinum catalysts have the highest resistance to deactivation by the reaction medium. XPS and XPA showed that the formation of cyanide complexes of the metals on the surface of the support is one of the causes of deactivation of the catalysts. The possibility of regenerating the catalysts was demonstrated.
