Abstract: The chemisorption of CO on Ir(111) has been investigated both by XPS and UPS. It has been demonstrated that XPS is a useful technique for the determination of isosteric heats adsorption. The shape of the chemisorbed CO 1π—5σ peaks in the UPS data for Ir(111) is different from that previously published for Ir(100). This may well be indicative of an influence of the geometric structure of the surface upon the electronic structure of the chemisorption bond.
