Abstract:
The electrode potential was detected for powdered Mn2O3, MnO2, Mn3O4, MnO(OH), and Mn3O4.005.2.68H2O as a function of pH to establish the oxidation state of surface oxides catalyzing H2O2 decomposition. The degree of oxidation corresponds to that in Mn3O4, but the structure of the surface oxide layer differs from that of Mn3O4. Kinetic parameters for H2O2 decomposition at 22 or 25° under stationary state conditions are related to oxidation state and structure of the surface oxide layer.
