Abstract: DTA, differential thermogravimetric, and X-ray phase analysis of Fe3+ hydrolysis products showed that aging involves a transition from polymeric hydroxides to polymeric oxides. During subsequent aging of these samples, secondary needle-like α-FeO(OH) crystals are formed and grow, while the oxide particles (hexagonal plate-like crystals of α-Fe2O3) grow by an oriented plating mechanism.
