Abstract: Currently, a new technique for the manufacture of chromatographic columns based on the processes designed for microelectromechanical systems is being developed. This techniques results in the formation of smaller columns and opens up prospects for the development of a unique column manufacture process without human participation. This review presents data on the application of this technique for the manufacture of chromatographic capillary columns. The methods for capillary production and the effect of capillary shape and configuration on the column chromatographic properties are considered. The methods for insertion of stationary phases into capillaries, both traditional for capillary chromatography and borrowed from semoconductor and microelectromechanical techniques, are discussed. The unique properties of semipacked columns manufactured using the microelectromechanical techniques are presented. The possible applications of these columns and prospects for their further development are discussed. Bibliography — 179 references.
