Abstract:
Chemisorption of oxygen on oxidized surface of an n-germanium single crystal of 30 ohm-cm resistivity has been studied. It is shown that this adsorption is accelerated in an external field which lowers the work function. The initial position of the Fermi level does not affect the chemisorption of oxygen and methanol gases. An effect of a change in the Fermi level position on the chemisorption is observed only when there are adsorption centers on the surface. It is concluded that the position of the Fermi level is not a governing characteristic for chemisorption properties of a semiconductor.
